A Xiamen Airlines Boeing 737-800 jet skidded off the runway of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Thursday evening, August 16, 2018 at about 2355hrs Beijing time. All 157 passengers and 8 crew members on board flight MF8667 were evacuated safely with no injuries. According to the Chinese news agency CTGN, the aircraft skidded off the runway during landing, causing one of the aircraft's engines to detach from the wing.
Xiamen Airlines 8667 was completing a two and a half hour flight from the southern Chinese city of Xiamen when the incident occured. This incident also happened in the wake of bad weather in Metro Manila last night which included heavy rains.
The photo posted above shpwed the aircraft sitting not far from the airport's perimeter fence at the end of NAIA runway 24. The aircraft was leaning to the left as a result of the engine that was detached..
According to Aviation Safety Network, the aircraft attempted to land twice in heavy thunderstorm. Tracking data by flight aware shows that the aircraft previously attempted to land but decided to abort and try again. This incident is still under investigation as to why this incident happened. The cabin crew immediately initiated emergency evacuation procedure resulting to no casualties and injuries.
