Tough situations do not only make us tougher, but it makes us discover ourselves and our potentials. In the case of flight attendants where the aviation industry has been greatly affected putting most on "leave without pay", they had to find ways to push forward.
These flight attendants discovered that in them lies something waiting to be unleashed, and that was their entrepreneurial spirit. As most of their flights were suspended which also resulted to a depletion of their income, flight attendants had to find ways to make ends meet. If not, they crisis will end up taking control over their dreams.
We now have our flying entrepreneurs, an evolution of our flight attendants brought by the worse crisis in history, the coronavirus crisis.
'Diskarte hindi arte'
This became the battlecry of our flying cabin crew entrepreneurs. That statement itself pushed these flight attendants to come up with all sorts of businesses and ways to make money. "Diskarte" means strategy or a way to get things done, regardless of what others say or what it may entail them to do.
These businesses range from a fishball stand by a road, a rolling fruit stall, a mobile palengke, a barbeque stand, confectionery delights, frozen food, ube pandesal, and so much more. More than just a plain small business, these flight attendants are pushing the envelope to make them lucrative and guess what, they are successful.
Some of these cabin crew shared that they get reactions like "flight attendant ka dati, bakit ka ngayon nagtitinda ng kakanin? Ano nangyari sa iyo?" However, these flying entrepreneurs do not allow 'negas' from pushing on with what they are doing. For them, it is about making a decent living, and it is about finding ways to get things done amidst this pandemic.
Being a cabin crew has also helped them as entrepreneurs
Some may say "there is no growth in being a flight attendant." That is absolutely wrong! In fact, their job as flight attendants has helped them as new entrepreneurs. What are these?
Small businesses will drive the economy
These small businesses of our flight attendants are not just "raket-raket", no. They are also drivers of our economy as they have the huge potential to grow and even provide employment. These are what we need now, more entrepreneurs and more businesses.
Who knows, that flight attendant that maybe serving you on board, may be an entrepreneur providing jobs to others. That cabin crew entrepreneur ensuring your safety on board, checking on you, serving your meal, and doing safety demo, may also be one of the best producers of cookies. Moreso, that flight attendant attending to your needs on board may be the same guy going around to bring the groceries to your home so you need not go out.
We salute all our new breed of flight attendants, our flying entrepreneurs! We wish you all the best in your small businesses and may they all flourish and provide jobs for others later on!
We will be posting more #asensocabincrew stories! We got so much more in store for you indeed.
