We have featured a lot individual flight attendant entrepreneurs who have succeeded in growing their businesses. The pandemic did not only bring out the creative side in every flight attendant, but it also did bring some friendships to a different level where some became partners. This is the story of seven flight attendants from different airlines who placed up their own clothing line named "HeyBeasties".
Flight attendants Vianca Vega, Lianne Crisologo, Liz Napicol, Reanne Fenix, Akeemie Torres, Cha Cha Tinduhan, and Shine Apawan all belonged to one airline way back, PAL Express. Vianx, Lianne, and Liz later on moved to Saudia but their solid friendship remained despite the distance.
The pandemic took a huge toll on the airline industry forcing many flight attendants to strategize ways and means in order to get through where many placed up their own business. For these seven flight attendants, having their own businesses as individuals would have been an option however, they believed that working together to put up one business would be a better one. As they say, "two heads are better than one."
The team believed that being a flight attendant has its advantages in running a business which made them more confident that they would succeed as a team. "In our many years of being in the airline industry, there were so many instances wherein our patience, empathy and multi-tasking skills have been tested. So far, we can really tell that having those traits come in useful in handling and running a business," Vianx shared.
The seven decided to push for a business. After much brainstorming and assessing the current situation, they were able to find an opportunity which they can turn into a business and which of course, they are passionate about. "We primarily started because of the pandemic. Gyms are currently shut and it was really hard to motivate ourselves to workout. While shopping online for our own activewear, we thought, why not share it to other people," shared Liz Napicol.
"First we came up with a business plan. Next thing we knew we were already choosing a brand name. Even if our product was not yet built, we right away set up our Instagram acct just to hype it first. Then the assigning of responsibilities to co-founders was next, which came easy because there’s seven of us," shared Shine.
The flight attendants came up with the name "HeyBeasties", a clothing line business that sells activewear. Their goal is to motivate people to stay fit and to continuously workout even during lockdowns given today's crisis.
According to Vianx, "You know the phrase 'dress for success'? We strongly believe it also applies to the world of fitness so we are selling activewear to motivate people to workout and keep a healthy lifestyle even during the Community Quarantine."
Since not all are in the Philippines, the ladies divided the work accordingly where ones who are currently abroad are in charge of marketing or handling our social media accounts. They edit and post the photos of the products. While the ones in the Philippines are in charge of the business operations, such as modelling the products, inventory, shipping, etc.
According to the ladies, their best seller at the moment is the Venice Set which costs Php 1299 only as they try their best to provide quality products at a budget-friendly price. With all the efforts placed in, So the busines has been showing positive results in which they are hoping that such results will continue even after the pandemic. Hopefully even better.
If there is one huge lessons these flight attendants learned, it is about never giving-up and the power of team work. According to Shine, being a team player was also an important trait they learned as a flight attendant which they have applied well in running their own business. While there is still more to learn, the group is very optimistic that their business will grow further and maybe even open up other varieties of their clothing line.
"We've learned that during these trying times, we shouldn't just give up right away. We need to power through and think of ways on how we'll be able to provide, not only for ourselves, but our families as well," shared Reanne.
If there is one message these flight attendants would like to share to their winged colleagues, it is this:
It's normal to worry and it's good to let that run through our system, but we can't let it take over us. Things'll look up, in due course. We just have to believe in ourselves and overcome this phase in our lives." -FAs Vianca, Liz, Lianne, Shine, Reanne, Cha Cha, and Akeemie
