Pandemics do not only bring out the best in every individual, it does also bring out the kindness and thoughtfulness in people. The world is indeed facing the worst crisis ever after the first world war and every nation are struggling for survival, Even oil-rich countries like Saudi Arabia are not spared.
Saudia flight attendants are not spared. The airline suspended all its international as a response to the plummet of air travel demand brought by the coronavirus pandemic. However, this did not stop the airline's cabin crew to bring help to their fellow colleagues and Saudia workers greatly affected.
Saudia flight attendant Ariane shared that "since all flights in Saudi Arabia were suspended due to the lockdown, we saw that a lot of Saudia workers were greatly affected. We planned to help as many as we can."
They then decided to get more flight attendants involved by talking and sharing their thoughts to on how they could help. They got the support of every flight attendant they spoke to. News also did spread around fast that others volunteered to help.
The flight attendants were able to raise 4,000SAR in cash plus in-kind donations. "We distributed by going to their accommodation. Some flight attendants waited for their (workers) duty to end to hand the donations before heading home," Ariane shared.
Some of the recipients were those workers who helped maintain the flight attendants' compound like gardeners and housekeepers. Even the drivers received donations from the flight attendants.
Just last month, another group of Saudia flight attendants also went out to help displaced OFWs affected by the pandemic. According to a source, these OFWs were already going through the trashbins hoping to find food amid the lockdown.
When you are a flight attendant, you learn to be of service to everyone, regardless if in the sky or ground, position, and status. For Ariane, being part of this was a priceless experience.
Helping other people through little ways we can is not just good for them, but it makes us more happy and our hearts full." -FA Ariane
Thank you for being a blessing to others Saudia flight attendants! May God continue to shower you with blessings and good health!
