Last July 17, 2018, Philippine Airlines held an event entitled "Breakthroughs and Milestones" which served as the official roll-out of the airline's newest aircraft, the Airbus A350-941 and Airbus A321-271NEO. It also coincided with Lucio Tan's 83rd birthday! This was held at the Lufthansa Technik Philippines hangar, in an enclosed airconditioned tent, right infront where the two new jets are displayed. Indeed, the acquisition of new generation jets with an enhanced cabin became another milestone for the airline.
Our very own Albert Alday and Mond Ortiz represented Flyhigh Manila at the event which was an exclusive by-invite only. The highlight of the event was the speech and presence of no other than our President, Rodrigo R. Duterte. Food and beverage during the event were provided Chef Jessie who served an awesome selection of cocktail food. Filipino-made world class cheeses were also served during that night, and these are the very same cheese served inside the aircraft.
We are very happy that we were invited to this special event of Philippine Airlines.
"May God grant you a thousand years more of your life. Happy birthday, Mr. Tan. You are 83 years old and still a success story on all fronts" was PRRD's message to Dr. Lucio Tan. He even said "This milestone would not have been possible without the decisive leadership of Dr. Tan, who is celebrating his 83rd birthday today. Dr. Tan, I wish you a happy birthday and may you continue to be endowed with good health, countless blessings and greater success in all endeavors."
Despite the heavy rains, inclement weather, traffic, and flooding around Metro Manila, many still made it to this special event basically showcasing breakthroughs and milestones in Philippine Airlines's history and today. The venue was almost packed a few minutes before the President of the country arrived.
The night even featured performers such as Sharon Cuneta, Richard Poon, and PAL's very own and Tawag ng Tanghalan Finalist Anton Antenorcruz!
Aside from those, Mond and Albert were also able to catch-up with some of their PAL flight attendant friends such as Francel De Leon, Jana Siratranont, Muriel Orais, Kimberly Pajares, Jenny Gonzales, Carlo Ventura, Gilda Dangan, and many more.
The highlight were the two aircraft on display. Visitors were allowed to check both aircraft without having to leave the ground. The A350 was newly delivered just last July 15. The A321NEO on the other hand had been flying to local destination, regional countries, and even two Australian flights particularly Brisbane and Syndey. The Airbus A350 will be deployed first to regional destinations for a few months and then will later be used to fly to New York, London, and other new destinations in Europe and North America.
Philippine Airlines ordered 6 Airbus A350 and 21 A321NEOs. Out of the total number, 4 A350s and 6 A321Ns will be delivered before the year 2018 ends. The airline also has an option of 6 more A350s and are still deciding whether to take in more A350-900s or to go for the much longer A350-1000 to compliment their Boeing 777-300ER fleet.
Philippine Airlines is the only 4-star airline in the Philippines. Just the same night, PAL was named as the 2nd World's Most Improved Airline and 49th placer (from 67th in 2017) at the World's Best Airlines ranking in the Skytrax 2018 Airline of the Year awards. PAL Express on the other hand broke into the top 100 ranking by placing 99th from last year's 108th.
We wish Philippine Airlines and PAL Express more success! May you get that 5th star soon!
