A Chinese woman passenger was tackled down by Thai Airways flight stewards after the former deliberately coughed on a female flight attendant. The passenger was apparently disgruntled over COVID-19 checks which caused delays to the flight. The flight from Bangkok to Shanghai Pudong was held for up to 10 hours after landing.
A passenger took a video of the dramatic situation.
In a report by the NYpost, passengers said that after several hours of staying inside the aircraft, the woman wanted to get out. After she was told by the crew to wait for clearance to disembark, the passenger intentionally coughed on one of the flight attendants that prompted the male flight stewards on board to take her down. The six male cabin crew were able to subdue her without the use of handcuffs. All other passengers underwent checks for the virus.
Thailand Aviation Safety Department's head Prathana Pattanasiri said, "We could not open the doors of the plane until instructed to and health officials came to proceed with checks. Therefore, Thai Airways had to wait for seven hours before officials arrived at the inspection queue."
“The Chinese passenger was upset about being held for a long time and coughed at one of our staff. After she calmed down, we explained the situation to her and she agreed to sit and wait for screening," Pattanasiri continued.
