Today, another set of Philippine Airlines cabin crew were called from their homes to answer the call of duty, and that is to fly Canadians back and to bring home Filipinos. In a time of a pandemic like this CoviD-19 crisis where staying home would be the safest place to be at, these flight attendants could have just stayed home and take an unpaid leave but that is never the case for these very dedicated and brave PAL cabin crew.
They right away took the call of the airline for a mission to fly home fathers, mothers, children, husbands, wives, brothers, and sisters. Since this was also a special flight in the middle of a global pandemic that has infected millions and took the lives of more than hundreds of thousands, PAL provided their crew with Personal Protective Equipment or PPEs to protect them against the dreaded CoviD-19.
PAL was to fly to two cities in Canada, namely Toronto and Vancouver to fly back Canadian citizens then the flights back to Manila will be carrying Filipinos / Philippine-passport holders, their spouses, children, etc. The flight departed Manila yesterday April 14.
Being the frontliners facing passengers in the air tight cabin, flight attendants are very susceptible to contracting the virus based on a study by New York Times, and the airline was very much aware of the scenario their cabin crew would be facing. The PPE provided by PAL for their cabin crew were all medical grade gears complete with a face shield, face mask, a full suit, and hand gloves.
Just like our frontliners in the ground like our medical staff, doctors, nurses, law enforcers, delivery people, grocery workers, etc., these flight attendants together with the pilots are the frontliners of the sky. While the pilots fly the aircraft safely to their destinations, these flight attendants face passengers ensuring their safety and comfort on board regardless of the situation.
For these PAL flight attendants called from the comforts of their homes, it was more than just answering the call of duty, but it is about giving their service to the country and humanity. It was about being selfless, putting their own welfare behind a genuine concern for others knowing that families will be united at home as the world faces this pandemic.
Our salute to all the PAL flight crew crew for your dedication and bravery to be of service to the country and to God. Thank you for leaving home to bring others home.
