It is so nice and inspiring to see a lot of flight attendants turn into small business owners or start-up entrepreneurs. This is just proof that the worse situations can indeed bring out the best in all of us. One example is this flight attendant from Gulf Air who created her own line of skin care products!
This is Rose Marie Jumawan, a cabin crew and also the founder of Rosy Skin Essentials. They manufacture and sell skin care products such us Rejuvenating Derma Kit, Rosy Glow Kit and The Body Series. More than just the heels, the scarf, and tie, and the trolleys, they are very versatile individuals.
Rose's story however started with a childhood dream of being a flight attendant and having her own business at the same time in the future. "One day, when i wasn't flying, the thought of making my other dream come true crossed my mind. I was like, “why not start it now”. So last February, I went back to the Philippines for a 2 weeks leave. I started my brand, organised everything and distributed my first batch of stock. Little did I know that was my last flight back home then Covid-19 changed the world..the world of traveling," she shared.
Her efforts paid-off as her business is now on full operations with resellers from different areas. A could thing about this is it provides a source of income for to others.
Rose however felt that her business came in at the right time. "We had no flights and we were put on leave for months. I was lucky I started the business a month before the pandemic affected us too much. I focused more on promoting the product and came up with more ideas on how to expand it," Rose said.
Rose considers her Rejuvenating Derma Kit as a best seller. For PhP 350.00, it includes Premium Kojic Soap, Rejuvenating Toner, Night Cream and Sunscreen. This might be the perfect product for flight attendants.
Another benefit for flight attendants, particularly those facing uncertainty are the lessons they could learn from this story. "There are a lot of flight attendants who resorted into opening a business no matter how small or big it is just to make ends meet. It only shows how versatile we are and that we are more than just heels and scarves. Our wings expand whenever we need it. May it be in sky or ground," said Rose.
Indeed, there is indeed growth in becoming a flight attendant, we just have to learn how to grab these opportunities to learn and be inspired. In the face of uncertainty, there is always a way to push forward.
Our #asensocabincrew feature has one message for all her flight attendant colleagues regardless of which airline they are from:
Everything will get better soon. No matter what happens, we got the skills, beauty, brains, posture, experience and 'tamang diskarte'. There will always be a place for us. Time will come, that we will be able to say this again 'Safe skies!'" -Rose Marie Jumawan
