Taho is indeed one of the most favorite refreshment, drink, or food among Filipinos. It is something we all look forward to in the morning. It is healthy too, good for the bones! As they say, "you are not Filipino if you don't love Taho." Well, even non-Filipinos, especially our foreign visitors love Taho! In the middle of this pandemic where aviation has been affected, a flight attendant found a living by selling Taho!
Cebu Pacific flight attendant Rea May Delfin was also greatly affected. Reduced number of flights and unpaid leaves has depleted her income, however, she did not stop looking for a business venture that would help augment her income and make ends meet.
Rea's small business involves Taho, but no this is not your favorite warm Taho, but chilled Taho! Chilled taho's taste is totally not far from the warm one sold around our village or by the streets. Only difference is one is warm and the other is cold. According to Rea, "my business is called Tom Soya Taho! This one is unique since we offer chilled taho not the traditional hot taho. It is 240ml in size with syrup and pearl. We also sell soymilk ( 500ml & 1Liter) and Tofu (1/2 kilo and 1kg)."
How did this all start? "I need to look for an alternative, so to cut this short, I got the chance to challenge myself masubukan nga mag benta ng TAHO since walang nagbebenta sa labas," Rea shared.
"As we all know aviation was greatly affected by the pandemic that we are facing today so just to earn money it's the perfect time for me to go out of my comfort zone and challenge my selling skills (just like what we typically do in Cebu Pacific for our buy on board snacks and drinks). Since this business requires small amount of money, as small as 500 pesos for start up, I immediately grabbed the opportunity."
Rea is basically a distributor of the chilled Taho where she collects orders on Thursdays and delivers them by Sundays. She also offers free deliveries to places within her area which is Makati.
Rea's best seller is yes, the chilled Taho! For its price of PhP 35.00 plus the health benefits, this is definitely more bang for the buck! Rea does also sell other soy-based products for all our health requirements.
Aside from the income, there is one thing Rea has gained, and that is experience! "What I learned was JUST KEEP THE FAITH and keep in mind that God provides.
"To my co-crew don't be afraid to go out of your shell and try to put out your business. Believe me when I say that "Diskarte" plays a huge part here. You will never know until you give it a try."
Indeed, "diskarte" plays a huge role in pushing forward amid this pandemic. If you really want to do something, if you want to accomplish something, you must start somewhere. Set aside all inhibitions, what others may say on what you do should not matter. What matters is how you are taking action to push forward.
For Rea, it was selling Chilled Taho. With this, she was able to push forward and make ends meet. At the end of the day, it is about achieving our goals.
So to all the cabin crew facing uncertainty, do not allow the situation to consume you. In you lies the power to make things happen!
Thank you for sharing your #asensocabincrew story, Rea!
