"Diskarte, hindi arte." In a pandemic like this, its all about finding ways to make ends meet, regardless of what you do. For this Cebu Pacific flight attendant, the pandemic drove her to put up a small business where she sells today's tending food, one of it, sushi bake!
Flight attendant Sophia Tolentino didn't care what others may say in order to make ends meet. At the end of the day, it is about moving on and not allowing a crisis to consume our dreams and plans.
Being a single mom to a 3-year old son, she had to really push herself despite everything happening around. To augment her income, Sophia placed up an online business where she sells food products, particularly Sushi Bake and Korean side dishes.
However, what drove Sophia to put up her business? "To be honest the main reason is the pandemic we are facing today. Waking up everyday, I keep questioning myself if what more or what else I can do to be more productive," Sophia shared.
So basically, Sushi Bake is one of the most trending dishes nowadays. It is basically a deconstructed Sushi which is baked, hence, it has those flavors of a typical Sushi dish.
"I came up on a idea to re-sell trending food online. There's nothing wrong on earning extra income in times like this. In fact, I am learning and enjoying doing it," Sophia said.
Sophia's bestsellers are California bake & Spicy Duo for the Sushi Bakes. For the Korean Side dishes, they are Kimbap and Stir Fried Odeng. She is also planning to add some more dishes like chicken flavored wings, baked goodies, and refreshments.
More than the money, Sophia believes that the experience is priceless. "I learned that if you really want to do something, start it anyway even though you have so many doubts. Don't mind those people who are belittling you, those are just part of your journey. Some will support, some will drag you down. At the end of the day, we can only rely on ourselves, so no matter how hard it gets, keep pushing forward," she shared.
There is indeed so much uncertainty nowadays in the aviation industry. Airlines forecast that things may only return back to normal in 2 to 3 years time hence, airline employees like flight attendants are finding ways and means to push forward.
For Sophia, it is about unleashing the creativity in every one of us.
"This is the season of heartbreaks for all of us, but this is also the time to unleash the creativity in us! I believe that we are CABIN CREW with a PURPOSE. I hope that you find that purpose in this trying times. Maybe we’re facing so many uncertainties right now but everything happens for a reason. Don't lose hope! Keep that faith burning inside and trust God! He will lead us on the right path. Laban lang," shared Sophia.
