In the middle of all the chaos happening at our airports brought by the closure of NAIA runway 06/24 due to a Xiamen Airline Boeing 737-800 skidding off the runway, was a tear jerking scene aboard Cebu Pacific flight 5J600 flying from Davao to Cebu. It was the last flight of Cebu Pacific Capt. Rizalino Irizari before his retirement, and it did not come without a heart warming speech to his passengers and crew on board.
Two videos came out, the first one taken by Kathrine Sheree Lobrigas Tandingan showed Capt. Irizari giving the flight details to the passengers, but in the middle of the briefing, he said "I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. This would be my last flight after 48 years as a pilot (cry). Thank you. Tomorrow, I will be retired. I promise to spend my remaining years serving the Lord. You know I missed a lot of Sundays...Godbless everyone." One of the cabin crew then invited all passengers to take a group selfie with the captain of the flight.
Despite the heavy delays the passengers experienced, they all clapped for the Captain, and some even admitted shedding tears. Kathrine Tandingas even wrote "Delayed flight??? YES, okay lang na okay kung ganito din naman ang mawiwitness namin sa buong buhay namin."
A second video from Sandra Stein showed a water salute given to Capt. Irizari as he brings his Airbus A320 to the terminal at Cebu.
Happy retirement Capt. Irizari! And happy birthday too!
