It was last night when I received the very sad news that another foreign airline laid-off quite a number of flight attendants and a huge number of Filipino cabin crew were affected. I felt very sad for our Filipino cabin crew, especially that we have featured many of them on Flyhigh Manila when they newly received their wings.
Learning about these retrenchments affects, especially that I had posted many of your pictures just right after you have received your wings. I recalled those pictures of you posing with your wings and certificates as new cabin crew, and of course, your batch pictures. I recalled all your messages made me remember how you wanted your story to be an inspiration to our future cabin crew. I remember reading how much many of you wanted to be a flight attendant ever since you were a kid.
Here's what I want to say to all of you.
Congratulations! Congratulations for working hard to make your dreams come true, to turn those cabin crew dreams into a reality. Even if you were forced to rest your wings for the mean time, I am still very proud for all of you for well representing the Filipino spirit in a foreign airline and for going beyond serving our passengers by being an inspiration also to our future cabin crew. All the more I am proud that you made your dreams come true and you can make it come true once again.
Times today are tough but you are all flight attendants, whether your wings rest or not. Once a flight attendant, forever a flight attendant. You all belong to the sky and once again, I am sure you will fly.
This is not the end, perhaps, the start of another beginning.
Remember that time when you had to brave extreme weather conditions and long lines during recruitment or open days just to take that chance despite the high attrition rate? Out of those thousands of applicants, you were part of the chosen few, like about 5% of the total number of applicants, because you all worked hard for it.
Remember your training days? Ditching, emergency procedure drills, sleepless nights just memorizing and studying your almost 1,000-page CCOM while making sure you score a 90% up in all your tests? You all made it because you are tough and you were molded harder to be stronger, ready to face any crisis or unfortunate situations. Yes that’s who you are, you are airline cabin crew members, built and molded to be strong. Tough situations do not last, tough people do.
I am confident that the airline industry will recover as interconnectivity is very important for the economic development. When this happens, you will once again unfold and unleash those wings of yours, be it still red, or maybe yellow, or maybe blue.
I completely understand what many of you are facing now. “How about my dreams, pinaghirapan ko ito”, “paanp ngayon pamilya ko”, and more. Just pray, sit back, have faith, and remain focused. You will bounce back. We have many flight attendants who became entrepreneurs and we completely support them by actually purchasing from them and by providing free marketing support. They are now successful. We also have many who started offering insurance plans. They are now very successful. Their paggiging cabin crew has propelled them to grow their businesses. Consider this situation is a “temporary defeat”. It happens to all our champions and winners. Even the greatest achievers and most successful people in this world has one through this stage.
Think of it that if you have lost the championship this season, there is always another season to win it back.
So please don’t give-up.
You will fly again.
Last but not least, I and the whole Flyhigh Manila team are behind you through thick or thin, in triumphs and during temporary defeat. We continue to cheer for each and everyone of you. If you need us to unburden, we are here, just a message away.
I will continue to pray for you all, that you be given strength all throughout. God will not bring us through situations which we cannot handle alone. For every sunset is sunrise. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Turbulent skies are not forever, we will see clear skies once again.
I can’t wait to see you in the skies once again!
Looking forward to fly with you soon!
