Traveling in Style
by F/A Gilda Dangan
My style is most definitely all about three things: comfort, simplicity and class. Most of my styles are pretty laid-back yet classy. I’d always like to keep my style conservative but powerful. I’m not very keen on accessories, one distinctive accessory is already enough – usually a pop of contrasting color may it be the bag, shoes, hat, fur, earrings, and the like.
Study your destination
Make a research about your destination and study every single detail of your trip. Knowing everything about your trip will make preparations a lot easier – from the head piece you’re planning to wear down to the type of shoes you’re ready to rock. As for me, I always bring my sneakers (Addidas Stan Smiths) with me as you’ll never know how much walking you’d take throughout the trip. Ballet flats are my greatest life-savers to these go along with pretty much a lot of outfits yet they still are comfortable and so chic!
Be sure to bring pieces that can work altogether in different outfits
As I mentioned, I never seem to wear a lot of accessories so here’s where “mix and match” happens. I bring scarves. You can put on your scarf in a lot of different ways depending on what you are going for with your outfit. I also make sure I got my Boyfriend jeans as these go along with any outfit even with heels, plus these ones are very comfortable during flights.
Your camera is definitely one of your essentials! I am a flight attendant and as one, I travel a lot. I want to capture everything about my trips, OOTDs included. So, I really invested on a camera. Right now, I am using a Leica camera. I swear, this by far is the best camera for me! It’s both travel and user-friendly, especially for those who are not too techie and don’t even know what aperture and ISO are.
SHOEESS! The right pair of shoes!!
Shoes are probably one my greatest obsessions. I collect a lot especially the high-heels but I only rarely wear them. You can always see me wearing sneakers, ballet flats, and mules. I always believe that a great pair of shoes can make you stand out! And I’d always say yes for “tiis-ganda” outfits! Kidding aside, even when you only wear a simple white dress, boyfriend jeans, a plain top paired with skinny jeans, all these with a great pair of shoes can make the whole outfit look so simple yet stylish!
A piece that stands out!
I mentioned that I mix my outfit with a distinctive piece of accessory. In a monochromatic outfit, for instance, I wear a pair of shoes that contradicts the color I am wearing.
The heart of the matter is, your travel outfits should always carry out two basic things: comfort and impression. Your outfits should be comfortable enough to get you through the whole day i.e., shopping in Oxford-street, wandering in the streets of New York, a long walk to the temples and shrines of Japan, survive strolling in the sunny souk of Dubai, etc. Keep in mind that however comfortable your outfit is, you should always go for giving people one great, powerful impression.
A usual question I usually get is “How do you prepare your stuff for layover?” Honestly, I really seldom plan on what to wear. Pag winter, i just bring all the heattech stuff, then i go mix and match when I get in my destination with my winter jacket or coat. It's easier when it is summer at the place I'm headed to, I just bring whatever’s on top of my wardrobe. Haha! I just make sure i bring the right shoes!
When it comes to shopping, i don't go for all branded items. I only buy expensive stuff (clothes, scarf, shoes) when I know its hard to find similar to more affordable ones. Labels won't define your style and who you are, it's always how you carry out yourself with confidence. It doesnt always have to be labeled or branded. I love going to bazaars and I shop at mens section too, like their t-shirts.
Watch out for my very own fashion line too, soon!
