The title says it all. These are some Filipino passenger habits toward flight attendants that we need to minimize or even completely stop. We are doing this to educate our fellow passengers and to expose these bad habits so that we can all stop doing it. We all want happy flights. Cabin crew members are trained to address the needs of passengers but there are some situations wherein some passengers abuse this. So let's all work together for happy flights. As we say, happy passengers and a happy crew equates to a happy flight!
Asking your flight attendant to stow your luggage unto the overhead bin.
This has been a habit of many able passengers that we have to end soon! If you are an able passenger wherein you were able to carry your hand luggage from your house to the car to the airport terminal to the check-in counter to the departure area and to the aircraft, then you can definitely carry them unto the overhead bin. If you are a PWD, a pregnant woman, or a senior citizen, then you may ask your cabin crew for assistance. If you are just too lazy to lift it, then have it checked-in.
Scolding cabin crew members for delays and diversions.
A cabin crew's job stays only within the cabin of the aircraft. They do not fly the aircraft, they do not direct air traffic, they do not repair aircraft, they do not direct aircraft on the ramp, and they do not schedule the aircraft flights. Moreso, they are not God who controls the weather. Sometimes, flights are diverted during uncontrollable situations like runway damage or bad weather. This is also for the safety of the whole flight. Cabin crew members takes orders from the captain and they also do follow certain safety protocol for the passengers. So please let us quit that habit of scolding cabin crew members for something they are not in control of. You may always complain to the airline directly if you feel your delay was unnecessary.
Not following safety precautions during take-off and landing.
Always remember that no matter how much of a million miler you are, a flight attendant knows the aircraft more than you do. Their intensive training allows them to simulate every emergency situation. They tell you to fasten your seatbelt, keep your tables stowed, window shades, and your seats in upright position for safety reasons. Your seatbelt keeps you on your seat during take off and landing so you don't fly around the cabin. Your window shades have to be up so you can assess the situation outside during an emergency and so your eyes are adjusted to the natural light outside. Your tables have to be stowed so that during an emergency, you are free of any obstacle so you can leave your seat quickly. Your seats have to be up so the passenger behind you can evacuate quickly during an emergency. So let's end the habit of not following your cabin crew when they are not looking. Emergencies can happen anytime. You would not want to be a casualty or a reason for a casualty just because you can't keep your seat up.
Taking discreet videos of your flight attendant crush.
Now this has become a phenomenon which should be placed to an end! Just lately, a flight attendant became viral after a passenger took a discreet video of his flight attendant crush while calling her "baby" and saying "I'll marry you" while extending his finger pretending to touch the flight attendant's cheek. It offended the flight attendant who is presently married with a child. If you want a video or a picture of your flight attendant crush, you can always approach him or her, politely ask if you can take a video or picture, and properly ask for their names. There is nothing wrong of asking permission or consent. The more your flight attendant would appreciate that you showed some proper manners. Cabin crew members are not celebrities, they are not public property wherein you can just take a video of them discreetly. Let's all put an end to this habit of taking discreet videos of our cabin crush and uploading them on social media. Some may like it and many do not. The more they would feel flattered if you ask permission properly before you upload your picture with them with a beautiful admiration caption. There is nothing wrong of admiring the beauty of your cabin crew, just do it properly.
Abusing the call button.
There are times when a cabin crew cannot attend to your needs right away and these usually happens during take-off, landing, service, or whenever the fasten seatbelt sign is on. Except when it is already an emergency, let's not abuse that call button by pressing and pressing it over and over again for something you can for during those times. Once you press it, just wait and your cabin crew will attendant to your needs. Patience is a virtue. Unless it is an emergency situation that you need first aid or you are experiencing some health problems that needs to be addressed right away, let's end the habit of pressing and pressing the call button if your cabin crew cannot attend to you right away. He or she will attend to you, just be patient.
Not returning the flight attendant's ballpen after borrowing it.
Common, even as kids, we are taught to return items we borrowed regardless of what they are. So if you borrow a ballpen from a flight attendant, please do not forget to return it. If not, please do bring your own ballpen.
It's not complicated to end those habits we mentioned above. It's easy actually. Always remember, happy passengers and happy crew equates to a happy flight.
